BIOGRAPHIES OF CURRENT BOARD MEMBERS

Nancy Fairweather, President

I was born in Toronto, and was summer-cottage-raised in Buckhorn since 1959. I am wife of 42 years to husband, Derry; mom to two wonderful daughters and grandmother (Nanny) to four lovely grandchildren. In 1995, after dismantling and donating our family cottage, we built an all-season home on the cottage site. Upon retirement, I resided here while hubby commuted weekends. Aside from being wife and mom I have experienced a varied career from Canada Trust, Peel Manor and Financial Post to working from home transcribing for a market research firm. Since moving permanently to the Buckhorn area I’ve enjoyed volunteering in many capacities: People’s Warden and ACW President St. Matthew St. Aidan church, OPP Community Police, founding member of Rural Outreach Centre, President/Deanery Rep to Toronto Diocese Anglican Church Women Board of Directors, and volunteer at BCC for many years. It is an honour to serve as Board member and President for the Buckhorn Community Centre.

Gill Exton, First Vice-President

I am married with four children aged 10 -17 years. We moved to Buckhorn in August 2007 from England, to set up a branch of our business called Two Fish. I have been a partner in our Graphic Design Business for the last 16 years and prior to that was a Personnel Consultant for Royal Mail. I have always been heavily involved in community volunteering. I was a Guider in the Girl Guides Association, a conservation volunteer, a youth worker, Chair of a school fundraising committee, a Sunday school and holiday club group leader and for the last six years the Chair of Governors at a local infant school. I am humbled by the commitment there is to building a strong, safe community here in Buckhorn and am really looking forward to being part of this amazing team.

Rosmarie Binns, Second Vice-President

Born in Switzerland, educated in Europe and Canada. Spent several years with Air Canada in the capacity of Instructor. Quit to raise children for majority of their childhood. Owner of communications company involved in desktop publishing, speech writing for corporate personnel and politicians as well as assisting budding entrepreneurs with development of business plans, mission statements and diverse business proposals. Enjoy early retirement, volunteering, photography, sculpting and am currently revamping my little cottage on Sandy Lake.

Carole Buttineau, Treasurer

I graduated from Canadore College of Applied Arts & Technology with a three-year program diploma in business/administration. I have worked for more than 19 years in the not-for-profit sector; federal, provincial and municipal administrative/financial positions; and now with a foundation that supports healthy living issues in Peterborough County.

I have volunteered all of my life for a number of not-for-profit organizations including March of Dimes, UNICEF, CNIB, and the Buckhorn Community Centre.

The eldest of five children, I have lived in Buckhorn since 2000. I have a son. My special interests are quilting, reading, and backyard living, which has come to include gardening.

Vickie Pasma, Secretary

I have been pleased to sit on the BCC Board of Directors since the fall of 2007.  My qualifications to be a productive member of this Board include:  Vice-President of Administration for a mid-size manufacturing firm in Mississauga for 20 years (retiring in 2000), responsible for day-to-day operations; member of the Board and Chair of the Publication Committee for the Buckhorn District Tourist Association (2001 – 2006), member of the Parish Planning Council and Treasurer of St. Matthews / St. Aidan Anglican Church in Buckhorn, Chair of the Anglican Church for Women, St. Matthew  / St. Aidan; and member of the ACW Deanery Committee for Trent Durham region.

Sean Flanagan, Director

My wife, Maureen Corrigan, and I live in a straw bale house in Buckhorn that we designed and built with the help of many friends and family members.  My background is quite varied:  I have a Bachelor of Mathematics and a Bachelor of Education; I have worked as a teacher, a stained glass artist, and a computer programmer; and I currently own and operate a renewable energy business called Flanagan and Sun.  Helping to meet the challenges we are facing with climate change is my current passion.  I am interested in learning more about, and contributing to, the community of Buckhorn.  I look forward to contributing as a member of the Board of Directors for the Buckhorn Community Centre.

Ray St. Onge, Director

As a successful senior executive and entrepreneur, with more than 35 years experience in the marketing communications industry, I moved to the Buckhorn area in 2008 after having cottaged here most of my life (the last 10 as a cottage owner on Bald Lake). Today, I work with Hall's Bridge Realty in Buckhorn, helping people find the cottage or home they've been searching for. Married for 35 years, my wife Jeanette and I have 2 grown children, Julie and Michael, and four grandchildren

Carolle Beyore, Director

I will soon be married 30 years to the love of my life, Kevin. I have two grown children. Our youngest serves with the Canadian Military and our eldest son being an avid outdoorsman is really the one who attracted us to this area. He attended College in Lindsay and then Trent University and always raved about the area. We visited, liked what we saw and decided to stay. I have moved my Financial Services business to the area and as a family we have built our log home. My spouse continues to commute 5 hours one way on weekends until his retirement early in 2010. I have always been heavily involved in the community in which we live --from board member and volunteer for Hospital auxiliary, president of the PTA (5+yrs),Classroom volunteer, tutor, fundraiser, school bus safety committee, Red Cross Emergency, Girl Guide & Pathfinder leader, church groups and mentoring in the financial field. I truly believe that we as citizens must “give back” to the community that we make home and now that I have settled in this community it’s time to get on with it.

Paul Enright, Director (bio to come)

Bev Matthews, Twp Council Liaison, Ex-Officio Board Member

I am a Harvey Ward Councillor with over 14 years of Municipal Council experience. I act as a liaison between the Board and GCH Council. The municipality helps to fund the B.C.C. and I listen to the Board’s needs and deliver messages on behalf of the Board. I have a teaching background and am owner / manager of a tourist resort on Pigeon Lake for the past 28 years.

Judy McWhirter, Manager, Ex-Officio Board Member

I have lived in Buckhorn for over 30 years. Married with two grown children, I am a new grandma to Helena Grace born November 1, 2007. I have been married to my husband Rob for 32 years. I enjoy gardening, sewing and golfing. (Webmaster's note: As if she didn't have enough to do managing the Centre, Judy also teaches aerobic exercise twice a week and works at all the events. She produces the dinner theatre productions, manages the kitchen and serving during dinner theatre and writes and produces the Centre's newsletter.)

Peggy Roberts, Bookkeeper, Ex-Officio Board Member

I came from Eastern Ontario, where I grew up along the St. Lawrence River. As a young person, I experienced the relocation of my hometown, Morrisburg, during the development of the Seaway Water System.  My career was in the municipal area, where I was a Clerk-Treasurer for 20+ years. I have a financial and political background. My strengths are in fundraising planning. I have been very involved with Crime Stoppers locally, provincially and internationally. For the past four years I was Chairperson. My husband and I moved here in 1999 and instantly fell in love with the community and have enjoyed volunteering at the BCC ever since. I have been involved with all of the major fundraising events as well as sitting on numerous committees of the Board.
