Adopt-A-Troop Program

The Buckhorn Community Centre is collecting items from May 26 to July 31 to be sent to a unit in Afghanistan. There will also be a booth at Canada Day Tuesday, July 1, to make donations, sign a shirt or write a card. We are asking families to bring donated items in a reusable bag. Keep in mind that this shipment could be sitting in the heat so we do not want to send anything that melts, like chocolate.

Items can be dropped off to the Centre Monday to Friday. PLEASE CLEARLY MARK WHAT IS IN THE BAG AND ATTACH IT TO THE HANDLE WITH YOUR NAME.

Here is a small list of items that our soldiers
would like to receive:

  • Flakes of turkey, chicken or ham, sardines
  • Cans of nuts
  • Gum, sour candy, licorice
  • Bag rice any flavour (the kind you microwave in 2 minutes) ie. Uncle Bens
  • Instant cereal
  • Microwave popcorn
  • Lip balm
  • Travel wipes
  • Breakfast bars
  • Magazines (Reader's Digest is a good one)
  • DVDs (no x-rated), CDs
  • Flavoured crystals (singles for water bottles) ie Koolaid- Lipton
  • A note or letter addressed to 'A Soldier'
  • Cash would also be appreciated, we then can purchase other items

For more information call Darlene Loucks 657-7182 or Buckhorn Community Centre at 657-8833
