Just a reminder that the Spring Craft Show is coming up. This year it will be running for two days – on MAY 19-20.

The Craft Show is pleased to welcome approximately 110 artisans from all areas of Ontario, featuring the very best selection of Canadian handcrafted Seasonal, Country, Traditional and Contemporary Crafts. The first 500 people arriving daily will receive a Free Reusable Shopping Bag. This will help you carry away your purchases.

Saturday – May 19, 10–5pm.
Sunday - May 20, 10–4pm.
General Admission is $5, Children 12 and under free.

Owners of Mainstreet Landing Restaurant (Lock 31 in Buckhorn) “GREET” AND “TREAT” OUR YELLOW RIBBON SOLDIERS. Andrea & Troy Plumley and Debbie & Glenn Jones offer a ‘Warm Welcome’ and a FREE MEAL! to Soldiers accompanied by Darlene Loucks and Kathy Bulger.

Message from owner Andrea Plumley: We are so proud to be a part of such a wonderful, supportive community here in Buckhorn. We are also grateful that so many young men and women have risked their lives for our freedom and freedom of others around the world. It’s a wonderful thing to be a part of, and a small gesture for a grand act. A small thing like a lunch/dinner out for a moment of normalcy for a soldier is a small token of our appreciation for what the soldiers have done for us.

Cpl. Chris Hartwell was wounded in “2009″…Chris lives in the area and after enjoying a wonderful lunch he and Stephanie helped pack some Yellow Ribbon Boxes to send to his comrades in Afghanistan.

Sgt. Karri Allison and Heather Allison (mom) seated with Andrea Plumley and Kathy Bulger. We kept in touch with both these ladies during Karri’s Tour. Heather (mom) was so grateful to have someone to chat to, and to share her concerns. Karri found it comforting to know that her mom had someone who would listen and understand. Karri was also in Afghanistan as a Medic in “2006″…the Worst Year for Canadian Casualties. Mom (Heather) recently made the trip from Newfoundland to help Karri get settled in Borden…Visiting Buckhorn was on her list of things to do before flying home.

Children’s Creative Camp – Summer 2012

The BCC will be holding the Children’s Creative Camp this Summer for age groups 6-12years of age. Teacher: Sue Masters, Artist: Diane Southey. Camp information brochure.

DATES: JULY 9-13th and AUGUST 27-31st
TIMES: 9am-2pm Monday-Friday
REGISTRATION: Monday morning
FEE: $65 for the week

Whether you volunteer now or are just thinking about….we are inviting everyone out to a Volunteer Lunch on Tuesday, May 8. This is an opportunity for area residents to find out volunteer opportunities not only at the centre but at other community organizations. This is your chance to gather information and meet your neighbours. Doors open at 11:30 for hors d’oeuvres & information gathering. Lunch is at 12:30. After lunch we will be having a loonie auction. If you have never been to one, this is your chance. Buy some great items at a fraction of the cost. RSVP please. We want to have enough food! 705-657-8833

Yellow Ribbon Campaign

On Saturday Three ‘Military’ moms, a grandmother, and a grandfather helped pack boxes for the Troops in Afghanistan. The boxes are not going to their sons or daughters, but to others. Kathy Bulger, Dawn Clouston, Marion McKee, Jennifer Plumley, Doug Plumley, and Darlene Loucks. Seventeen Soldiers and their comrades will soon receive boxes with “Things from home” from “The Yellow Ribbon Campaign”! Thank You to everyone for your continued Support with this Campaign!!

“The Amorous Ambassador” written by Michael Parker and directed by Angela Stanfield - “When Harry Douglas, the new American to Great Britain, tells his family he is going to Scotland to play golf, his wife and daughter announce weekend plans of their own. Of course, best laid plans seldom run smoothly and hilarious shenanigans ensue.” This play is being presented April 20 -22 & 27 – 29.
