We would like to invite everyone to come out to the official launch of our solar array Tuesday February 21 @ 10:30am. Three hundred and twelve collector panels are on our south facing roof generating power that will be fed into Ontario’s power grid. Come on out and meet the Solar Team and join us for refreshments and information. Everyone is welcome.

PLEASE JOIN US for a community information meeting regarding the 125th Anniversary Commemoration of the Buckhorn, Burleigh Falls and Lovesick Locks – event to be held Saturday, Sept. 8th, 2012.

Information Meeting Details:

When: Wednesday, February 8, 2012

Time: 6:30pm – 7:30pm

Where: Buckhorn Community Centre

Parks Canada, the East Kawartha Chamber of Commerce, the Buckhorn Community
Centre and Buckhorn District Tourist Association have partnered to present
this very special event in commemoration of this important anniversary. We
want to ensure that the festivities include the broader community, so we
encourage you to join us at this meeting to hear more, and we invite your
active participation.

ALL ARE WELCOME! In the spirit of community, we hope you will consider how
your business or organization might participate – as an event volunteer, as
a sponsor or by initiating an event yourself! Bring your ideas, or just come
by to learn more.

KinderGym & Cooking classes

KinderGym: This 8 week class will provide children 4-10yrs with flexibility, strength, spacial awareness and discipline on various apparatus’s. This is a great workout and exercise routine for children during the cold winter months. This FREE 8 week class will be coached by Hannah Moreland and offered twice a week. Every Monday or Wednesday (one or the other) 6-7pm. Spots are limited – 12 children per class! So sign up now. Classes start Week of January 30th. Children should wear tight fitting clothes -No jeans!- Bare feet are recommended, although a tight ballet like slipper may be worn. Please provided your children with a bottle of water.

Cooking Class: For boys and girls in grade 4 & up. Children will learn the basics of cooking healthy and safely. One 8 week session. Dates of the classes are; February 8, 22, March 7, 28, April 11, 25, after school until 5pm. Two classes will be held during March break; Tuesday March 13 & Thursday March 15 from 10 am – 11:30am. Space is limited to 10students. Register at the BCC. Another 8 week session will be running in September for 10 new students.

Broadway Beat

Broadway is happening at the BCC! Songs like Seventy-six Trombones, Give My Regards to Broadway, Whistle a Happy Tune, Seasons of Love and We Go Together will be featured in the musical “Broadway Beat” and sung by the children of St. Martins in Ennismore, St. Paul’s in Lakefield and the public schools of Chemong, Ridpath, Apsley and Buckhorn. All children from these schools are invited to join in this wonderful event which will include singing, dancing and speaking. Rehearsals will be happening at the Buckhorn Community Centre, 1801 Lakehurst Road, Buckhorn. No auditions. Just come and joins us and sing! A parent information meeting will happen at the BCC on Thursday, Feb. 9 at 7:00 p.m. Rehearsals will start on Thursday, February 16 at 4:00 p.m. for all children interested in being a part. The production will happen Friday, Saturday and Sunday, May 4, 5 and 6. Contact Marlys Kerkman-Gains at kerkmam@gmail.com for more info.

Children’s Musical

Bev Horton and Marlys Kerkman will be directing a children’s musical again in 2012 at the BCC. “After the success of Rainbow Connection last year are looking forward to all the wonderful voices from last year plus more joining us for Broadway Beat“, director Marlys Kerkman said. With hits from Hairspray, The Music Man, The King And I, Wicked, Rent and Grease the directors will keep your children singing and enjoying the beat. Children from Kindergarten through grade eight are welcome. There will be a parental information night in February and rehearsals will start soon after with the production being the first weekend of May. Put it on your calendar now!
