TAI CHI for LIFE
TUESDAYS AND THURSDAYS

Your opportunity to experience a modified Yang style at the BCC. These Tai Chi classes are designed for any fitness level. Tai Chi enhances an individual’s range of motion, strength and relaxation for improved health.  No pre-registration….Just Come. Class is pay as you go $7  or check out the monthly and yearly rates HERE. Held Tuesday & Thursday mornings 10am-noon. All year.

SENIOR FITNESS – MONDAYS AND WEDNESDAYS

This FREE class has seniors working with bands and light weights (in chairs) to strengthen muscles and improve balance. Sponsored by Buckhorn Community Care, all levels of fitness are welcome.
Held Monday and Wednesdays from noon – 12:30 you will strengthen your muscles
using bands and weights.

Following this class Power Hour with Balance will be taught. This exercise class is a little more intense and you will incorporate bands and weights, standing and laying on a mat (chairs can also be used). No loud music or choregraphed moves. Your instructor will also incorporate balance exercises to help you move throughout the day. Of course you should consult your doctor before starting any program and always work at your pace and level of fitness.

  CIRCUIT TRAINING

This class is great for all fitness levels and combines strength training and aerobics training for a total body workout. The class involves a variety of exercise stations using dumbbells, exercise ball, bands and your body’s own resistance to help increase muscular endurance and strength. The quick movement between exercises combined with cardio stations helps to keep your heart rate elevated throughout the workout burning calories the entire time. The best part is that this class is designed for each participant to work at their own pace in a controlled supervised environment.  Pay as you go $5. Sometimes this class is cancelled due to other activities. Please check the calendar on the home page at the bottom of the page or call the BCC for details.

LOW IMPACT AEROBICS  & TONING
Monday & Wednesday
8:30am – 9:30am all year

This one-hour class will get your heart rate up with 20 minutes of low-impact aerobics. Then work on toning muscles. A stretch and cool down rounds out the hour. Time flies when you’re having fun. Designed for all ages. Work at your own pace and make new friends too. Pay as you go, $5 per class, or $20 for 5 classes.

PICKLE BALL

This fun activity was brought back from Florida.  It’s a cross between tennis and badminton.   Play Monday, Wednesday & Friday mornings from
10am – noon October – May. We have four rackets that can be borrowed or you can purchase your own on-line.  There is a $2 user fee to participate.
In June this activity moves to the sports pad.  Check the google calendar on the front page for any cancellations due to events
Summer Hours
Monday 9:00 am to noon
Wednesday 9:00 am to noon    Wednesday evening 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm    Friday 9:00 am to noon.

The Wednesday  morning session will include a lesson/drill for the first hour and then open play for all. The lesson part is designed for those just learning the game and for newer players wishing to strengthen their game. We will offer these lesson sessions in June for 3 – 4 weeks and see the response to continue.
If not, then the courts are there with the usual open play.
Our seasonal fee this year will be $20.00 per person. The increase is to offset net costs.
And we are asking you to once again save the odd loonie and add it to our loonie bin for the lights.

                                                             FITNESS ROOM FOR BCC MEMBERS

img_20160606_142912 img_20160606_142903img_20160606_142918The Centre has a small room with free weights, up-to-date cardio equipment, etc. It may be a small room but it can help you get into shape. A very reasonable fee of $10 per month or a $50 fitness-room membership for the year plus a BCC family membership ($25).  A second family member is $25. Under 16 years of age must be supervised by an adult. The gym is open Monday to Friday, 8 am to 4:30 pm and some evenings. A waiver must be signed before you use the equipment. Come have a look!

WALKING

The Community Centre is available during the winter for those who wish to continue their walking exercise. There is no charge. Walking inside ends the end of March. You are welcome to walk outside the BCC where there are facilities and a flat surface. We have many activities that go on weekly. Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons are fairly open but if you are making a special trip call ahead.

BADMINTON (December – March)

We have the means to play this game…..we just need the players. If you are interested, call the BCC and leave your name and number.
